Microsoft Copilot 3D transforms 2D photos into usable 3D models

No subscription needed!

Microsoft has unveiled Copilot 3D, a new AI-powered tool available for free that converts simple 2D pictures into fully realised 3D models. These 3D creations can be used across gaming, animation, 3D printing, virtual and augmented reality. According to Microsoft, all you need is a clear, high-quality 2D image, no text instructions required.

Right now, only PNG and JPG images under 10MB are supported, though Microsoft plans to add more file formats and increase the upload size down the line. After uploading your image, just hit the Create button and wait anywhere from a few seconds to about a minute for your 3D model to be ready. For best results, Microsoft suggests using images with a clean background or clear separation between the subject and background.

All 3D models created with Copilot 3D can be exported in GLB format, making them compatible with most 3D viewers, tools, and engines, including Augmented Reality apps. These models are stored for 28 days and can be accessed anytime from the My Creations page.

Microsoft advises using a desktop computer for the best experience, as mobile browsers may cause issues. To try Copilot 3D, simply visit Copilot.com in your preferred browser, click the sidebar button in the top-left corner, navigate to Labs, and hit the ‘Try now’ button under Copilot 3D.

Copilot 3D is currently in preview as part of Copilot Labs and is available to a limited group of users. However, you don’t need a Copilot Pro subscription to access it, it's open to all Copilot users worldwide. You can test it out on the web version of Copilot.
