New leak reveals next-gen Apple AirPods will come with USB Type-C

The tech world's in for a shake-up?

We're about to see the curtain rise on the shiny new iPhone 15 models and a whole bunch of other Apple goodies (you can read it here). But here's the twist – it's not just another tech reveal because Apple's rumoured to make the leap from Lightning to USB Type-C ports. It's a shift that fans have been clamouring for, and it looks like it's not just iPhones that are getting in on the action.

A fresh report is backing up the whispers that Apple's also flipping the script for AirPods. According to Mark Gurman over at Bloomberg, it's all true – AirPods will come with USB Type-C ports.

However, it's the classic cliffhanger as Mark Gurman didn't spill the beans on any more details about those rumoured AirPods with USB-C charging cases. Now we can’t help but wonder if both the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 get in on this port action, or is it a special treat for just one of them? Some earlier leaks were pointing fingers at the Pro model as the lucky recipient of this new charging port.

Apple is set to strut their stuff at the same show when the iPhone 15 series takes the stage. Apple's already given us a date for the big shebang – September 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater.
