Earlier this year, Nothing CEO Carl Pei revealed the name of the brand’s first-ever smartphone, but nothing about it. We finally have something to see, and may even have come across a possible launch date.
In an interview, Pei and Nothing’s head of design Tom Howard have all but confirmed that the Nothing phone (1) will have a transparent back. In their words, they really "wanted to bring the inside out". In essence, the phone will follow the unique design language of the ear (1) TWS.
The company is trying to give the phone a distinctive and stand out look, by highlighting the critical components of the phone that usually go unnoticed. This will include the wireless charging coil and the camera housed in the transparent case giving it a jigsaw puzzle feel.
This design is said to be inspired by a 1972 New York Subway map containing a schematic view of electrical circuits, emphasising the importance of connections, designed by Massimo Vignelli and Bob Noorda.
Apart from its interesting design, not much has been revealed yet, except that the phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform. Yet another leak however hints at a possible July 21 global launch for the Nothing phone (1).
