Sony Alpha 7C II and Alpha 7CR combine a compact form factor with high-resolution performance

So, say cheese!

Let’s face it, in this day and age people can't get enough of sharing content. And, of course, in the quest for likes and shares, one needs a camera that is compact in size yet delivers top-notch images. Sony, (always) eager to oblige your insatiable social media needs, has come up with two new options to the Alpha 7C series of compact full-frame interchangeable lens cameras, the Alpha 7C II and Alpha 7C R. Let's have a look!

The Alpha 7C II is the second-generation model of the Alpha 7C, which was a good mix of performance and features in a compact design. Weighing in at around 514 grams, it packs a full-frame image sensor with approximately 33.0 effective megapixels and comes with the latest still image and video capabilities. You get ISO sensitivities ranging from 100 to 51200 for both photos and videos (expandable to ISO 50 to 204800 for photos), making it decent for high-sensitivity, noise-free shooting.

The Alpha 7C R, on the other hand, is a fresh addition to the family. This compact full-frame interchangeable lens camera boasts a full-size image sensor with approx 61.0 megapixels of pixel power. According to Sony, this camera isn't just for your everyday snapshots; it's your go-to for capturing top-notch images in various scenarios, from portraits to wildlife and landscape photography.

Both these models pack the same AI-processing unit and Bionz XR processors you'd find in Sony's latest interchangeable lens cameras like the Alpha 7R V and Alpha 6700. This means they come equipped with Real-time Recognition AF, which can identify a whole bunch of different subjects. Plus, the 5-axis in-body image stabilisation provides a 7.0 step shooting advantage when capturing stills.

When it comes to video prowess, both these models support 4:2:2 10-bit video recording at up to 4K60p. Plus, they've got Sony's S-Cinetone colour science for that extra cinematic pop. The cameras come with Active Mode in-body image stabilisation to keep things steady. Plus, there's AI-based auto-framing and digital-audio interface support.

The Alpha 7C II and Alpha 7CR sport touch-operable vari-angle LCD monitors with a touch menu for easy shooting. They've even got a new front dial, a still image/movie/S&Q switch dial, and an XGA high-resolution viewfinder.

And for connectivity, the cameras have Creators' App, a smartphone app that lets you upload your camera's photos and videos to the cloud while giving you remote control and image transfer superpowers. The Alpha 7C II is priced for ₹2,14,990, and as for the Alpha 7C R, we're still waiting on the price reveal. Circle back here to know more!
