Sony has introduced a new compact lens for its Alpha series cameras, the SEL2450G standard zoom. This lens is designed for 35mm full-frame cameras and provides a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout its zoom range. Despite its small size and lightweight design, Sony promises that it delivers high-resolution performance and beautiful bokeh, typical of a large aperture G Lens.
The lens covers a focal length range from 24mm to 50mm, making it versatile for capturing still images, portraits, and videos in high quality. Plus, it accepts 67mm filters and has a maximum diameter of 74.8mm, length of 92.3mm, and weighs around 440g, thanks to its latest optical and mechanical design.
To ensure sharp and detailed images at all focal lengths, the lens is designed with four aspherical elements and two pieces of ED (Extra Low Dispersion) glass. This arrangement helps reduce aberrations like chromatic aberration, ensuring high-resolution performance from the centre to the corners of the image, as per Sony.
The SEL2450G features an 11-blade circular aperture, which, along with the optimisation of spherical aberration, delivers a beautiful, soft, and smooth bokeh typical of the G series lenses. It has a minimum shooting distance of 0.19m at the wide-angle end and a maximum magnification of 0.30x, allowing for high-quality close-up shooting.
Sony says the autofocus (AF) system is equipped with two linear motors that enable high-speed, high-precision tracking, and quiet focusing. It supports high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking of up to 120 frames per second, making it compatible with the full-frame mirrorless camera Alpha 9 III. For solid video performance, AF tracking is available for high frame rate 4K 120p or FHD 240p movie recording, ensuring critical focus control.
The lens also supports in-body Active Mode image stabilisation for steady shooting while walking. Additionally, it is compatible with focus breathing compensation on camera bodies, allowing for high-quality video expression. Intuitive manual focus is achieved through the adoption of linear response MF, which enables smooth and precise focussing.
The SEL2450G also has features like a customisable focus hold button, aperture ring, aperture click ON/OFF switch, and a focus mode switch. It's designed to be dust and moisture-proof along with a fluorine coating that prevents dirt from sticking to the front surface of the lens. The SEL2450G is priced at ₹1,16,990.
