Instagram has finally answered one of its longest-running requests: a dedicated iPad app. Until now, users had to rely on the scaled-up iPhone version or switch to the web experience, neither of which was designed with larger screens in mind. The new app features a polished, tablet-friendly interface, making scrolling, posting, and browsing on the iPad feel far more natural.
On the iPad, Instagram offers nearly the same viewing experience as its phone app but with a layout better suited for the larger screen. The app opens by default on the Reels tab. Stories remain pinned at the top, while a sidebar on the left gives quick access to DMs, Search, Explore, notifications, and the Following feed.
The main Feed comes with three modes – All, which mixes recommended posts and Reels from accounts you follow; Friends, which shows updates only from mutuals; and Latest, which arranges posts and Reels in chronological order. You can also customise the order of these feeds to match your preferences.
The new iPad app is rolling out to all models running iOS 15.1 or later, according to the company.
