MWC 2024: Xiaomi 14 series announced

Xiaomi’s imaging and AI innovations have taken a step ahead in the latest 14-series which made its debut at the MWC 2024. Incorporating the acclaimed Leica Summilux optics, the Xiaomi 14 series is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform.

The flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra incorporates a circular camera module with a flat back design and is available in Black and White colours in international markets. The phone is built around Xiaomi Guardian Structure, a platform comprising a high-strength aluminium frame, Xiaomi nano-tech vegan leather, and Xiaomi Shield Glass. The brand claims that the Xiaomi nano-tech vegan leather’s newly developed formula provides 6x improved wear resistance. The series uses Xiaomi’s custom C8 WQHD+ 6.73" AMOLED display with a pixel density of 522 ppi, variable 1-120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3000 nits.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s professional quad-camera system provides 12mm to 120mm equivalent focal lengths in 35mm format. The main camera is equipped with an f/1.63-4.0 stepless variable aperture. The snapper Integrates a large 1-inch LYT-900 image sensor with a dynamic range of up to 14EV and 50-megapixel resolution. Completing the quad-camera setup are the Leica 75mm floating telephoto camera, the Leica 120mm periscope camera, and the Leica 12mm ultra-wide camera. All the four cameras support 8K 30fps video. Its main camera supports shooting at 4K 120fps and is adaptable to 5x slow-motion effects. It also offers full-range zooming at 60fps in 4K resolution.

The Xiaomi 14 offers a compact design and features a triple-camera configuration covering 14mm to 75mm focal length. The system uses Leica Summilux optical lenses with an upgraded f/1.6 aperture on the main camera, combined with the Light Fusion 900 image sensor. The Leica 14mm ultra-wide camera has been upgraded with a 50MP sensor. The third camera uses the Leica 75mm floating telephoto lens with a minimum focus distance of 10cm. The phone uses a 6.36-inch CrystalRes AMOLED 1.5K (2670 x 1200) display with 460ppi pixel density and peak brightness of 3000 nits. It offers a variable refresh rate, ranging from 1 to 120Hz.

The Xiaomi 14 series features a Xiaomi IceLoop cooling system and is made for demanding scenarios such as video recording, computational photography, real-time AI, and intensive gaming according to the brand. The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra are equipped with the Xiaomi Surge battery management system. While the Xiaomi 14 is powered by a 4610mAh battery supported by 90W HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra houses a larger 5000mAh battery with 90W HyperCharge along with the latest 80W wireless HyperCharge technology.

Xiaomi’s HyperOS makes its debut with the 14 series. According to Xiaomi, this human-centric system is designed for the "Human X Car X Home" smart ecosystem, focusing on four major goals: Comprehensive Refactoring, Cross-Device Intelligent Connectivity, Proactive Intelligence, and End-to-End Security. Users can securely back up their photos and videos to Google Photos within the Xiaomi Gallery and seamlessly view, edit, and share content backed up in Google Photos right from their Xiaomi Gallery. The HyperOS integrates Large AI models into various system applications for more streamlined features such as AI Subtitles, AI Album Search, and AI Portraits, and AI Expansion.

The Xiaomi 14 will be available in Black, White, and Jade Green colours with two storage options at a starting price of EUR 999 (approximately ₹89,500). The Xiaomi 14 Ultra will be available in Black and White colours with a single version priced at EUR 1499 (approximately ₹1,34,000).
