Honor Choice Watch review

A wise choice

₹ 6,499

Entry-level Android smartwatch market features multiple brands with similar features, making it extremely difficult to stay ahead of the competition. Honor’s entry into the smartwatches category, however, promises a different experience. The Honor Choice (Haylou) Watch boasts a large AMOLED display combined with better water resistance and other premium features.

Design and display

Honor Choice Watch White Rear

The first thing you notice about the Honor Choice Watch is probably the optimal weight of 28.3g. The design is similar to most rectangular smartwatches in this segment with a single button and replaceable silicon strap. The watch is available in black and white colours. It accepts straps of 20mm lug width. It also offers a larger screen than most similar rectangular watches in the segment.  The device can resist up to 5ATM of water pressure, making it ready for swimming and surfing. Overall, the Honor Choice watch feels better built than most similar devices in the segment.

The 1.95-inch AMOLED display offers 550 nits of brightness and 332 ppi resolution. With a 60 Hz refresh rate, the watch facilitates smooth scrolling with a fast touch response. Overall, the watch offers a design and feel that bestows you with a level of confidence that most devices in this segment fail to dispense.

Features and performance

The Honor Choice Watch offers all essential health monitoring features including sleep quality tracking, all-day stress, heart rate, and SpO2 monitoring. Unlike most watches in this segment, the Honor Choice Watch can distinguish human skin from other surfaces and disable health monitoring when it comes into contact with a non-living object.

You can select workouts from the 120 modes that the watch offers. The watch can automatically detect five types of sports—walking, running, cycling, elliptical machine, and rowing machine. It also indicates training effects, VO2Max (indication of cardiovascular fitness) and recovery time. The watch supports five major satellite positioning systems including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, and BeiDou for accurate tracking.

The watch pairs with your phone with Wear Sync app, which provides a wide range of watch faces. You can set an always-on display with a subtle old-style watch face. Apart from Bluetooth calling and other usual phone-linked features, it offers breathing exercises, drinking alert, sedentary alert and menstrual cycle reminder.

Verdict

The Honor Choice Watch offers up to 12 days of battery life on a single charge and provides reliable performance based on our limited-time review. On top of it, the watch has a clean design and build quality that betrays the price.
