WTF is Prime Gaming?

Amazon’s ingenious next step

In a very hush-hush launch, Amazon has sneaked Prime Gaming into India. So what is all the secrecy and fuss about? Let’s dive into it…

What is it?

Prime Gaming is essentially a subscription service that offers access to a number of titles, kind of like Prime Video but for gamers. Amazon began testing the service earlier this year in the South Asian market. The gaming service will be complimentary to Amazon Prime subscribers and will offer users access to a large range of games. You can enjoy the games for mobiles, PC and Mac, in addition to the in-game loot for no additional cost.

What does it let you play?

As of now, the free games offered by the service include Quake, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and a few other indie titles. Other than a handful of full games you also get in-game cosmetics for League of Legends, DeathLoop, COD Warzone, EA Madden 23, FIFA 23, Apex Legends, Destiny 2 and some more titles that get added on a regular basis.

How much does it cost?

Well, for those rare few of you who aren’t already subscribers of Amazon Prime, you can get Prime Gaming bundled with the Amazon Prime package for just ₹1,499 per year or ₹179 per month. With a Prime subscription, you get access to Prime Video and Music too. So it really is the gift that keeps on giving.

How do I play it?

Once you have your Amazon Prime subscription taken care of, you need to go to the Prime Gaming website, sign in using your Amazon account and click on “Activate Prime Gaming.” With these three simple steps, you should be able to easily access the assortment of games they have selected for you, as well as those appealing loot items.

That said, do keep in mind that you may have to log in to some third-party apps like Epic Games, Rockstar Games, or Activision to claim some games and in-game items since they will still be linked to your in-game account.
