Apple brings developer tools for the Vision Pro

Devfest

If you are a nerdy developer whose heart rate fluctuates every time you think about code, Apple sure has a treat for you. They've unveiled new software tools and tech that will allow developers to create mind-blowing app experiences for their latest gadget, Apple Vision Pro. This spatial computer, as Apple likes to call it, lets users interact with digital content in their physical space using their eyes, hands, and voice. You can read our hands-on experience here.

With the visionOS software development kit (SDK), developers can take advantage of the infinite canvas in Vision Pro and blend digital content seamlessly with the real world. Just imagine the possibilities! You can now have apps that make your wildest dreams come true.

Apple is even setting up developer labs in various cities like Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo. They want developers to get hands-on experience with Apple Vision Pro hardware.

If you're worried about the learning curve, fret not! Apple has got your back. They've made sure that developers can use the same foundational frameworks they're already familiar with, like Xcode, SwiftUI, RealityKit, ARKit, and TestFlight. So no need to reinvent the wheel, just spin it in a whole new spatial direction!

Apple has also introduced a nifty tool called Reality Composer Pro that optimizes 3D content for visionOS apps and games. You can now preview and prepare 3D models, animations, images, and sounds with ease. And to top it off, they've thrown in a visionOS simulator where developers can test their apps in different room layouts and lighting conditions. It's like playing with a virtual dollhouse!

If you want to hop on board, you can learn more about designing these new app experiences for Apple Vision Pro or apply for a developer kit starting next month.
