AMD announced its Ryzen 9000 series processors during CES 2025 with two variants for desktops and three for laptops. These are all the top dogs in their category and according to AMD, it can give a thorough walloping to Intel and Qualcomm. First up is the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D which has 16 cores and 32 threads with up to 5.7GHz of boost clock speeds and 144MB. Like Uncle Ben from PCMR once said, “With more power comes more heat”, and hence their best CPU has a max TDP of 170W! The laptop version of this chip is the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and it has identical cores, threads and cache but it’s clocked at up to 5.4GHz and has a max TDP of 75W.
