We’ll know foldable phones are all the rage these days, and Samsung's got a pretty strong grip on the game with its Fold and Flip lineup. But they're not alone in this party! Huawei, Oppo, and some other players have been giving them a run for their money. And now, OnePlus is about to crash the foldable fiesta! OnePlus is stepping into the foldable ring later this year and if they play their cards (or screens) right and hit that sweet spot with pricing, they might just give Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 5 a real run for its money. So, what's the scoop on this much-anticipated OnePlus foldable phone? Sit tight, because we've got the lowdown on everything we know about the device that is whispered about as the OnePlus Open.
First things first, OnePlus Open is gearing up for its India debut on October 19 at 7:30 PM IST. When it comes to the price, the rumour mill suggests it might be around ₹130,000. If the grapevine is on point, it could come in at a more wallet-friendly rate compared to the Samsung Z Fold 5, which currently sits at ₹ 1,54,999. As for the colour choices, so far we've spotted the OnePlus Open in Black and Green shades. But whether there will be more hues in the mix at launch is still a bit of a mystery. Here’s the full scoop.
At first, all the rumours pointed to OnePlus calling their foldable smartphone the OnePlus V Fold. But the latest scoop comes from the leaker Max Jambor, who dug up some European trademark filings that spill the beans – it looks like OnePlus might just be going with the name OnePlus Open for their foldable phone.
Back in mid-June, the world got a sneak peek at the OnePlus Open, the initial leaked renders showcased its book-style design, but there was a bit of fuzziness in the details since they were based on early prototypes. In August, we got a much clearer look at the OnePlus Open. The renders were based on a pre-production unit, so they were more accurate. The cover display got wider, and the edges of the foldable seemed to have a nice curve. It's safe to say that the OnePlus Open is shaping up to be a stylish contender!
In the newer images, that camera island assumes a touch of grandeur, and the Hasselblad branding has taken a backseat, giving way to a simpler 'H' logo. A new LiDAR or ToF (Time-of-Flight) sensor has made its grand entrance on the camera housing. And let's not forget the texture – the foldable's back is decked out in faux leather.
Rumour has it that the OnePlus Open is set to flaunt a 6.3in 120Hz OLED cover screen. This, combined with the wider aspect ratio, is a recipe for enhancing the usefulness of the outer display. Inside, the folding screen is rumoured to be a 7.8in OLED, boasting a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Initially, OnePlus had its eyes on a BOE panel, but the latest whispers suggest they've made the switch to a Samsung-supplied display.
The device is rumoured to house a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The hinge is said to be one of the most robust ones out there, with rumours suggesting it can handle as many as 400,000 folds. That's double the endurance of anything we've seen from Samsung. There could be a 4,800mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging – so you won't be tethered to the charger for long. Other juicy tidbits from the rumour mill include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, the Alert Slider that OnePlus fans adore, and dual-SIM 5G connectivity.
If these leaked specs hold water, it seems OnePlus might opt for 48MP sensors to keep the price of their foldable device in check. The camera setup is said to be a triple treat, consisting of a 48MP primary lens, a 48MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 64MP telephoto shooter. On the external display, you'll find a 32MP camera, while the inner folding display boasts a 20MP shooter. The Hasselblad branding is here to stay, so you can expect the OnePlus Open to deliver photos with that signature OnePlus 11-like colour tuning.
