Google Maps injected with AI

No more ‘paan-walla’ directions

Google has just announced a brand new update for Google Maps called ‘Immersive View’. As the name suggests, it plans to bring a more detailed preview of your route from start to finish and corner to corner. Here’s the exact words of Chris Philips - “You can prepare for each turn as if you were there, with detailed, visual turn-by-turn directions, and use the time slider to plan when to head out based on helpful information, like simulated traffic and weather conditions. That way, you can easily avoid riding during rainy weather or heavy traffic.”

Google also injected new life into the search feature of Maps and now ‘Lens in Maps’ offers a Live View option that allows you to look for places around you by raising your smartphone just like you would on an app to find stars. Instead of stars though you would get information about the closest McDonalds or Petrol stations and everything else around you. Phillips also mentions that search will now bring up photo-first results of relevant searches which is curated by analyzing millions of images uploaded to Maps by its users. All of it done by AI. When will it be introduced in India? Soon. Till then, the paan-walla it is.
