Google has officially announced that its annual developer conference, Google I/O, is set for May 20-21, 2025—a stage where the tech giant typically reveals its latest ‘a’ series Pixel phones. However, this year’s release schedule appears to be shifting gears. The anticipated Pixel 9a is rumoured to debut ahead of schedule, potentially as soon as March 19, with sales expected to commence by March 26.

With the Pixel 9a’s rumoured launch drawing closer, freshly leaked renders have emerged, offering a detailed look at the device—including a purple variant and a notably subtle camera bump. Shared by Evan Blass on X, these images provide a clearer glimpse of Google’s upcoming midrange offering. Meanwhile, WinFuture’s latest leak leaves little to the imagination in terms of design. The Pixel 9a is set to arrive in four colour options—Peony (pink), Iris (purple/lavender), Obsidian (black), and Porcelain (white)—with retail availability likely starting March 26.
Earlier leaks suggest that the Pixel 9a will feature a 6.28-inch display shielded by Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, it’s expected to run on Google’s Tensor G4 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It’s also tipped to launch with Android 15 out of the box, with Google reportedly committing to an impressive seven years of OS updates.
Photography-wise, the Pixel 9a is tipped to feature a dual-camera setup with a 48-megapixel primary sensor and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, while a 13-megapixel front-facing camera handles selfies. Expect Google’s signature imaging software, including Night Sight, Astrophotography, and Super Res Zoom, to make an appearance as well.
