Google steps into the premium TWS arena with the Pixel Buds Pro

The antagonist to the AirPods Pro

For those of you who wish you could have selective hearing, to avoid those chatty people in your life, Google has come to your aid. Debuting the Pixel Buds Pro, the new wireless earbuds are the company’s first real step into premium headphones, set to rival AirPods Pro in performance and price.

Sharing the same shape and form as its predecessor, the Pixel Buds, these TWS earbuds are fitted with rubber ear hooks. The pods come with the same wireless charging case that vaguely resembles EVE from WALL-E. The earbuds are available in four colours black, grey, hot pink and pastel green.

The real attraction of these buds is their active noise-cancelling (ANC) technology. In addition to that, Google says there is a Transparency Mode too. It uses the built-in mics on the buds to provide you with awareness of your surroundings. These next-gen buds also come equipped with Google’s own six-core processor and deliver the best sound possible through the 11mm drivers, while processing the noise-cancellation. The Silent Seal feature on the buds helps to adapt their sound based on your ears.

Like most Google devices, the Google Assistant comes baked right into these buds. The premium earbuds are entirely touch and voice-controlled, with no buttons to be found and feature multiple microphones to pick up your voice. They have an IPX4 water-resistant rating and can withstand sweat and rain. They also have an 11-hour battery life, 7 with ANC and are going for $199 (₹15,500 approx). Pre-orders start on July 21st in the US, with sales starting on July 28th. Google hasn’t revealed Indian pricing and availability at the time of writing.
