Metis is Amazon's latest AI chatbot

Here to steal the spotlight from ChatGPT?

It looks like Amazon's jumping into the chatbot race with both feet, cooking up their own consumer-focused AI chatbot, Metis. Word on the street is they'll be unveiling the AI chatbot later this year probably at their annual Devices and Services shindig come September 2024.

The chatbot, Metis, will be accessible through a web browser and powered by Amazon's own AI model, Olympus. According to reports, Olympus outshines Amazon's public AI model, Titan, making Metis a force to be reckoned with.

Metis is geared up to shine in tasks like conversational engagements, information retrieval, and even image generation, highlighting its prowess in multimedia interactions. Utilising retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), Amazon’s Metis is said to go beyond the data it was trained on, tapping into external sources for up-to-date information. For instance, Metis should be able to fetch the latest stock values, a feat non-RAG chatbots can't achieve. By blending information retrieval with natural language processing, RAG allows AI to integrate external facts into its responses, boosting both effectiveness and accuracy.
