MIO: Memories In Orbit is a metroidvania that looks more enticing than going outside

And it’s got a playable demo!

Happy news for sci-fi fans, we’re getting an indie Metroidvania, MIO: Memories In Orbit, that’s not Nintendo’s Metroid. A playable demo is available now, along with a fresh gameplay reveal trailer. Players can jump into the action and get a feel for the unique atmosphere and beautiful, stylised world crafted by the French studio. With this and Expedition 33, the French are on a gaming roll!

The game plunges you into a mesmerising journey across danger and wonder as you play as MIO, a nimble robot. MIO awakens alone aboard the Vessel, a vast, drifting spaceship left in ruin. Once maintained by AI caretakers, the Vessel is now overrun by wild vegetation and malfunctioning machines. With the ship facing imminent shutdown, MIO must explore its labyrinthine depths, recover its lost memories, and uncover the truth behind the collapse – and their own forgotten past.

MIO: Memories In Orbit gameplay combines platforming and combat in a way that flows similar to Ori and the Will of the Wisps. The trailer itself exudes a poetic atmosphere, taking inspirations from sci-fi, comics, anime, and paintings, along with musical inspirations like lo-fi beats and choral melodies. You can start the journey with MIO’s playable demo, which is two to three hours long. It lets you play the beginning of the game, featuring a secret area to discover and a major challenge to overcome, mixing precision-based traversal, including a grappling hook, gliding, and wall-clinging, with fast-paced combat.

MIO: Memories In Orbit is planned to release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The demo is available on Steam and the Microsoft Store, offering a first look at this unique adventure.
