Rolls-Royce just dropped a chess set, and it’s a total flex

Chess night just got a whole lot more stylish

You thought Rolls-Royce only made cars? Well, you better think again. Because they just unveiled their own chess set, designed for those moments of quiet strategy in your ridiculously posh home.

This chess set doesn't just open; it performs. The leather-clad base gracefully rises from the middle, then the playing board glides open with a smooth, theatrical motion, revealing the chess pieces, which are held neatly in place. It's a move designed to remind you of those famous coach doors swinging open. Hidden magnets beneath the board keep your pieces perfectly aligned during play. And because Rolls-Royce thinks of everything, discreet drawers on each side pop open with a light touch, holding an extra queen for those unexpected promotions (no more denoting your extra queen with a Lego brick!).

Every single set is meticulously handcrafted. The board’s aluminium grid is machine-milled and then refined by hand. The veneer squares are laser-cut and placed by hand, each one sourced from the same log for a consistent look. The board and chess piece holder are framed with polished aluminium edges.

The chess pieces themselves are made to be works of art. Each one is precision-crafted with faceted surfaces, almost giving it a monolithic look. They’re made from ceramic-coated aluminium, hiding a magnet inside, and topped with a polished stainless-steel head. The black pieces get a satin finish, while the white ones sport a subtle iridescent shine.

Naturally, you can make it your own. The playing board comes in four swanky veneer options, arranged in a diamond pattern: Blackwood with Ceramic White, Macassar Ebony with Royal Walnut, Smoked Eucalyptus with Paldao, and Obsidian Ayous with Blackwood. And if that wasn't enough, you can pick from 13 Rolls-Royce leather colours for the exterior and piece holder, including Cashmere Grey, Phoenix Red, Charles Blue, and even Lime Green.
