Want to make your voice sound better?

If you’re looking for a microphone for your video projects or podcasts, Sony's latest ECM-S1 streaming microphone could be one of the options for you. Priced at ₹34,990, it's designed for videographers and content creators.

The microphone has three 14mm capsules, optimised for specific sound pickup modes, including Uni-directional, Omni-directional, and Stereo. Sony says its ability to capture human voices with natural clarity. It also includes a noise-cut filter that employs digital signal processing to eliminate harsh noise and a low-cut filter that reduces unwanted low-frequency noise such as wind, air conditioning, and vibration.

The microphone features a pop guard to minimise popping noises when the speaker's mouth is near the microphone. It also includes an attachable stand for hands-free recording, with adjustable angles. The stand can be removed when not in use, and the microphone can be mounted on a tripod or microphone arm using the 1/4" thread on the bottom.

The microphone includes an independent dial for adjusting the sound recording level. You can adjust the audio input level volume using the upper dial while monitoring the level in real-time with the indicator lamps. A built-in LINK lamp shows the communication status between the microphone and receiver, ensuring no missed recordings. To adjust the headphone volume, simply give the dial on the bottom of the microphone a short press.

The Bluetooth 5.3 and LC3 plus codec in the microphone and receiver ensure they have low power consumption, low latency, and high sound quality. For connectivity, you can attach the receiver to a compatible camera using its MI Shoe. The microphone and receiver feature USB Type-C terminals supporting 48 kHz/24-bit digital audio output. This allows you to wirelessly connect the microphone to a PC or smartphone via the receiver's USB, or directly connect the microphone to a PC or smartphone via USB. Additionally, the receiver includes a 3.5mm mini jack (stereo) as an audio output terminal.

Both the ECM-S1 microphone and the receiver come with built-in batteries for extended use. The receiver can be powered by directly connecting it to a power supply through the camera’s MI Shoe or a USB Type-C cable. When fully charged using a USB Type-C cable, the microphone can be used continuously for up to 13 hours.
