Stellantis’ Automotive Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 Immersive Audio Lab is a first-of-its-kind laboratory in India

Bringing that ultimate audio experience to your automobile

Stellantis has set up an Automotive Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 Immersive Audio Lab in Bengaluru. The lab is dedicated to fine-tuning audio, making sure it's top-notch for each of Stellantis’ 14 car brands across the globe.

The lab, a first of its kind in India among OEMs, centres on audio reference, production and quality assurance. It's poised to take a pivotal role in Stellantis' plan to craft distinctive audio strategies and roadmaps for each of its brands. The initiative marks a substantial leap forward by bringing the development of automotive acoustics capabilities in-house.

The Stellantis Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 Immersive Audio Lab has nailed it when it comes to control over sound. It boasts precise levels of control over reverberation time (RT),  achieving a 0.5 seconds in low frequencies and maintaining a linear 0.2 seconds from mid to high frequencies.  The Lab aligns with IEC and Dolby acoustical standards, earning a 100% score in several criteria, complemented by a less than 20NC Noise Criteria value. It also sets new standards in air and structure-borne insulation, achieving a Sound Transmission Class (STC) score of 68.

The room's acoustics are designed using computational simulation models like Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Boundary Element Method (BEM), and Raytracing. This approach not only led to a swift 53-day project completion but also optimised material usage, resulting in an avant-garde space that exemplifies precision and innovation in audio and acoustics, Stellantis says.Situated within the software centre in Bengaluru, the Stellantis Immersive Audio Lab is part of a hub specialising in advancing software and technological innovations crucial to the evolution of automotive and mobility solutions.
