Threads is Instagram’s Twitter clone and its available now

Battle of billionaires

Dear social butterflies, did you hear about Instagram’s latest trick up its sleeve called Threads? The app is designed to give you a dedicated playground for all your real-time updates and public conversations. So whether you're a creator extraordinaire or just a casual user, Threads is welcoming all who want to escape Twitter!

Threads is available for download on both the Play Store and the App Store. Once you've got the app on your device, signing up is pretty easy. You can either create a new account right within Threads or take the express lane and use your existing Instagram account to get started, just log in using your existing Instagram username, and voila! You even have the option to give your Threads profile a personal touch. You can rewrite the bio but if you make the account through Instagram then it won’t let you edit the name on Threads. You will have to make that change on Instagram first.

The app lets you spill your thoughts in posts up to 500 characters. Plus, you can spice up your posts with links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length. Instagram says its vision with Threads is “to take what Instagram does best and expand that to text, creating a positive and creative space to express your ideas.”

If you join Threads and you are under 16 (or under 18 in certain countries), you'll be automatically greeted with a private profile. Then you can choose to follow the same accounts you do on Instagram and discover more people who care about the things you do. Plus, the accessibility features you love on Instagram like screen reader support and AI-generated image descriptions are right here on Threads too.

Threads is currently in its early days but they’re working towards making it compatible with open and interoperable social networks. That means they're aiming to connect the Threads experience with the wider digital world. You can follow us on Threads here.
