Xbox Live Gold takes its final bow, making way for Game Pass Core

You’re officially old.

Remember the good old days when Xbox Live Gold was all the rage, especially thanks to Halo 2? Ah, the memories. But let's not dwell on the past; let's look to the future and embrace the new gaming era. Games with Gold, once the popular bonus that showered us with free titles, has become the subject of ridicule due to the underwhelming selection. So, it's time to bid farewell to that too, as Game Pass Core takes the stage.

Good ole Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold will be making its exeunt after more than two decades of gaming glory. But fear not, my fellow gamers, for it will be replaced by the shiny new Game Pass Core. Think of it as the evolution of Xbox Live Gold, like a Pokémon evolving into a more powerful form but without all the weird mutations.

Game Pass Core will grant you access to online console multiplayer, plus a collection of over 25 games to play on your Xbox Series X and S or Xbox One. All this for just $9.99 (₹820 approx.) a month or $59.99 (₹4,900 approx.) a year. Indian pricing is not available at the time of writing.

The list of Core games is looking pretty snazzy. From Among Us to Fallout 76, Doom Eternal to Gears 5, it's a smorgasbord of gaming goodness that'll have you salivating like a Pavlovian dog. Microsoft promises to announce more Core games (added 2-3 times a year), so stay tuned for even more epic adventures.

Currently, Game Pass Core games are-

  1. Among Us
  2. Descenders
