Xiaomi is reportedly gearing up to produce its mobile chipsets, following in the footsteps of Google’s Tensor chips found in Pixel devices. A Bloomberg
report reveals that the Chinese brand is aiming to bring its system-on-chips (SoCs) development in-house for future devices. While Xiaomi has maintained a strong partnership with Qualcomm, this shift towards creating its chips could pave the way for greater self-reliance.
The report also reveals that Xiaomi is set to launch smartphones in 2025 powered by its in-house chip, moving away from reliance on Qualcomm and MediaTek. Production of the chip is expected to begin in 2025, with the new SoC debuting in Xiaomi devices the same year. However, it remains uncertain how this in-house chip will differentiate itself from Qualcomm's offerings, as Xiaomi has long been one of Qualcomm’s closest partners, often leading the way in launching smartphones with the latest Snapdragon processors.
