Nintendo Switch 2: Everything we know so far

Mystery button and bigger joy cons hint at major upgrades!

As whispers of a 2025 reveal for the Nintendo Switch 2 grow louder, leaks offer tantalising glimpses at the next-gen console’s design, ports, and more. It looks like third-party accessory makers are already gearing up for the new hardware, with Dbrand leading the charge.

The company has teased its "Killswitch 2" case, featuring an animated render on its site that includes a mockup of the console. This version of the Switch 2 appears noticeably larger than its predecessors, with one interesting addition – a new mystery button located below the Home button on the right Joy-Con.

Recent accessory leaks have given us more clues about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2’s design. On Global Sources, a Chinese-based wholesale platform, new Joy-Con accessories have popped up, including steering wheels and controller grips made by third-party company MTM Industrial Ltd.

The colourful steering wheel attachments are designed with a child-friendly approach, featuring butterfly-shaped buttons. These accessories are also customisable in several colours. According to the product specs, the steering wheel measures 16.2 x 6.4 x 14.5 cm and weighs 0.26 kg, further hinting at how the Switch 2 may accommodate a range of accessories.

Furthermore, a video from SwitchUp has unveiled another supposed Switch 2 mockup. This mockup shows a noticeably larger console than the current Switch OLED, with larger Joy-Cons to match. It also features a new square button below the Home button, as well as a button under the triggers likely for ejecting the Joy-Cons. The kickstand, similar to the one on the Switch OLED, also makes an appearance in the design.

Earlier leaks on the Nintendo Switch 2 subreddit from another Chinese manufacturer offered more clues, showing off not just the system's back stand and Joy-Con buttons but also the top of the device. Also, Paul Gate, one of those who attended this year’s Game Awards after-party, had positive feedback about the system, and some confirmed dedicated support for the upcoming hardware.

These design leaks are lining up with earlier whispers about the Switch 2, especially when it comes to the revamped Joy-Cons and the mysterious new C button on the bottom right. But before you get too excited, remember—these accessories aren’t from Nintendo themselves. Third-party makers tend to base their designs on leaks and rumours, so take everything with a pinch of salt until we get the real deal from the source.
