Top 5 new features on the Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro

Know the Pixels backwards and forwards

Google Pixel smartphones are quite a rage among Android users, they are highly anticipated as well as well-received. Google too makes it a point to keep its loyal clientele happy by adding the most advanced features and useful details to its flagship devices. All said and done, let’s check out the top five features on the recently launched Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro.

1) Android 13

Both Pixel devices come with Android 13 which means you get enhanced security and hyper-personalization. This latest version of Android lets you control ‘Photos and Videos’ and ‘Music and Audio’ categorically which means you can specifically choose what to share when asked for access at the time of downloading a new app.

Google is also reducing the number of apps that require your location to function. Plus there will also be a unified Security & Privacy settings page in Android 13 and everything will be in a colour-coded fashion to indicate the safety status. Android 13 will also have system colour beyond Google apps, ‘themed icons’ in the settings will enable supported apps to match the phone’s colours and the latest version of Android will allow you to set language preferences for individual supported apps.

2) Cinematic mode

The latest Pixel smartphones are directly going after Apple with the new Cinematic Blur feature that tries to emulate bokeh (like Apple’s cinematic mode) in videos. It stimulates background blur while adding contrast to the subjects thus providing a depth of field similar to professional cameras used for film-making.

3) Telephoto Camera

The Pixel 7 Pro comes with a dedicated 48MP 5x telephoto lens with auto-focus that also uses macro focus to capture even the tiniest details. It makes the subject appear closer than it actually is so this lens is best for photography enthusiasts who like to deal in details for far-off subjects. Google likes to call it Super Res Zoom and it also enables Pixel 7 to zoom up to 8x and Pixel 7 Pro to zoom up to 30x but wait there’s more! The new Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro comes with a Photo Unblur feature that can retouch the blurry photos and turn them into perfect frames. Plus there is a Guided Frame feature too. As the name suggests, the accessibility feature will guide users for taking the perfect selfies through a set of vocally guided instructions in real-time, along with a countdown timer for users to get ready for the click.

4) G2 Processor

The Pixel smartphones are equipped with the Google Tensor G2, the next-gen processor custom-built for Pixel. The Google Tensor G2 is customised to enable advanced machine learning and speech recognition on the Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro. This will let the processor be faster and more efficient at computational photography and Google Assistant smarts. Even the Live Transcribe is now baked into the Google Messages app to translate voice notes into text immediately.

The AI will also enable clearer call quality and automatic background noise reduction. Direct My Call is also one sweet feature that lets Google AI do the talking for you so you don’t have to waste time listening to the automated caller menus. It’s faster than before but it’s not available in India at the time of writing. The Google Tensor G2 is also designed to be more secure and obviously more helpful.

5) Free VPN

Google has promised to include its VPN (Virtual Private Network) service from Google One on its Pixel smartphones, the update is expected to arrive later in the year. The free VPN will allow Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro users to remain private while surfing the web. Alas, your search history can remain a secret.
