Top 6 features of Xiaomi’s HyperOS

Yours truly HyperOS!

After more than ten years of Xiaomi's MIUI dominating its smartphones, the HyperOS does feel like a gust of wind through a stuffy room. This new operating system brings in fresh features, like a revamped gallery and a range of customisation options. One standout feature and the latest one is the Notification Spotlight which changes the way you handle notifications. We have compiled a list of the top six features of the HyperOAS, read on!

Notification Spotlight

With the arrival of HyperOS, a new design approach called Notification Spotlight is shaking up how we interact with notifications. This concept introduces ‘Featured Notifications,’ which offer controls to directly engage with notifications. It's worth noting that Notification Spotlight doesn't replace existing notification modes; rather, provides an alternative for apps that follow the Notification Spotlight guidelines.

To enable HyperOS's featured notifications on your Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO mobile devices, you can long-press the desired app and select ‘App info.’ In the subsequent screen, tap ‘Notifications' and activate the ‘Notification Highlight’ switch. Alternatively, you can also navigate to Settings, click on ‘Notifications and status bar,’ select ‘App notifications,’ choose the relevant app, and then turn on the ‘Notification Highlight’.

Redesigned Gallery App

HyperOS brings a fresh look to the Gallery app, making it easier to use. Before, you'd find Photos and Albums at the top, but now they're at the bottom along with a new panel called Recommendations. This panel shows features you used to find in the three-dot menu. There's a new ID feature also for creating ID cutouts and photos. Plus, with the Cutouts feature, you can change backgrounds and easily Copy, Save, or Send your pics with a tap so no more digging through menus.

New HyperOS Icons

Your app icons also get a more vibrant makeover! The latest update introduces new HyperOS icons with more vivid colours, adding a fresh and lively feel to your home screen.

Lock Screen Customisation

Xiaomi has stepped up its game with lock screen customisation on HyperOS. You can now set your picture as the lock screen background and add a Depth effect for a more dynamic look. Plus, there are three styles to choose from — Classic, Rhombus, and Magazine. Not to mention, you can also personalise the lock screen text font and clock style to make it uniquely yours.

Simpler Control Center

HyperOS streamlines the control panel by removing icon names in the Control Center, giving it a cleaner look reminiscent of iOS. Now, when you swipe down to open the Control Center, all the quick settings are available on the same page without the need to swipe sideways. This makes accessing and managing your settings much more convenient.

Enhanced Privacy & Security

HyperOS introduces a revamped Privacy and Security page in the Settings app, offering a comprehensive view of your security settings. This includes a list of app permissions for easy management and oversight. Additionally, the Shutdown Confirmation feature enhances security by requiring a PIN or pattern to power off the phone, protecting it from unauthorised shutdowns. Another benefit of HyperOS is its efficient use of storage, occupying just 8.76GB of internal storage, leaving you with more space for your files and apps.
