The previously-untitled Brad Pitt starrer film based on the world of Formula 1 racing now has a name. 'F1' is set to release in Summer 2025, and the first teaser trailer for the film was revealed on the sidelines of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix 2024 on July 7. The film, which stars Brad Pitt and is directed by Joseph Kosinski, is based on a fictional Formula 1 team called Apex Grand Prix. However, the film is set in the real world of F1, with the actual teams and drivers also appearing in the film as fictionalised versions of themselves.
Interestingly, seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is one of the producers of 'F1', apart from Brad Pitt and Jerry Bruckheimer. Pitt plays the role of Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver who comes out of retirement to take the second seat in the Apex GP team in order to mentor a rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce (played by Damson Idris). The film also stars Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, and Tobias Menzies in key roles.
The film, produced by Apple Original Films and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, is set to release on June 25, 2025 internationally. Filming has been taking place on the sidelines of actual F1 events, including during the recently concluded British Grand Prix. The Apex Grand Prix car used for filming is an actual Formula 2 car designed to look like an F1 car, and has been driven by the actors for filming.
