Pravaig Defy is a made-in-India electric SUV

A claim to fame

Pravaig, an Indian EV start-up unveiled its first electric SUV - Defy. To begin with, the car definitely scores high on looks, sporty and pretty at the same time, sporty with angular windows, sloping roof and black cladding on the top half and pretty with its rear-hinged doors and 18in alloy wheels. Priced at ₹39.5 lacs (ex-showroom), it is claimed to be feature-packed.

The brand states, Defy comes with a dual electric motor generating 407hp and 620Nm of peak torque, a 5 module Li-ion battery and a battery capacity of 90.9kWh which provide it a range of over 500 km on one charge.

Pravaig also claims that the battery can go from 0-80% in just 30 minutes using the 150kW DC charging set-up. Plus, the car has a top speed of 210 km/h and a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.9 seconds (we definitely are too eager to take it to 200 in 10 secs).

Just like most premium EV makers, Pravaig also used eco-friendly materials including technical textile from PET bottles, recovered nylon and vegan leather for interior trims. It features a dual-panel glass roof, cooled and powered seats, a 15.6-inch touchscreen display, Devialet premium sound system, ambient lighting and a PM 2.5 air filter.

No matter how much you like this car by the talk of it, you can’t really lay your hands on it yet because this totally made-in-India EV is not ready to be sold. It is expected to hit the market by the third quarter next year (if of course all goes well).
